Welcome to Kansai Bijutsuin

We aim at providing a pleasant environment in which students of all ages can study and grow. Our institute provides courses teaching the fundamentals of painting.

Further, our expert instructors provide support to our students tailored to their interests and abilities through weekly workshops.

Once a year, we sponsor an exhibition of our members’ works. We also host regular events and activities promoting exchanges among our members.

Life drawing is an extremely important technique for nurturing artistic expression and observation and laying the foundations of painting.

In life drawing classes, students study human anatomy and proportions while learning how to draw realistic human figures.
They study basic skills such as expression of physical proportions and muscles and the use of shadows and practice on various poses and means of expression.

Beginners are carefully taught from the basics so can participate without worry. Further, they can gain experience in drawing the human form from actual live models.

We provide a quiet pleasant setting with natural light promoting free ideas and expression. In the classes, students interact and stimulate each other while learning together.

Cast drawing is important technique for nurturing real modeling skills and observational powers and laying the foundations for painting and sculpture.

The cast drawing class uses plaster castings to teach how to draw form, feeling, and shadows in fine detail. Students start with how to capture basic proportions and volume and gradually advance to challenge themselves with more sophisticated expression.

Students of all levels from beginners to advanced improve their attentiveness to fine detail and expression.

Students can concentrate on their studies in northern natural light perfect for cast drawing.

Kansai Bijutsuin hosts quick pose sessions Saturday of every week.

In quick pose, a living model takes a succession of different poses. Students work to swiftly capture the form of the model in a short time and quickly sketch or draw it. This is an integral part of the training in the art of painting for enhancing improvisation and creativity.

Experienced artists and beginners – everyone is welcome. These sessions provide the perfect opportunity to improve skills in painting and sketching. Further, they allow one to experiment with various styles and approaches and to share creative inspiration.

No advance reservation is required to join a quick pose session. Just come over to the institute bringing your own sketch kit and paper.
